Introduction to EV Training and IV Guide
Greetings from Sensei Joltz. Feeling like your Pokemon aren't performing as strong as you expected even if you hit lv 100? Then its probably a skill issue.. just kidding, all it needs is proper EV training and the right IV stats. I will thoroughly explain in this guide what is EVs and IVs
What does EV and IV stand for and what do they do?
EVs stand for Effort Values in which contributes to an individual Pokémon's stats in the core and side series Pokémon games, including Pixelmon.
They are primarily obtained by defeating Pokémon in battle based on the Pokémon that was defeated. For example, defeating a Chansey will always yield your pokemon HP Values. These values can also be raised via Vitamins which will be the primarily use for EV training here.
Each stat can be maxed up to 252 EV points, however it is limited up to 510 EVs, which means 2 stats can only be fully maxed.
IVs stand for Individual values and serve as a factor in determining a Pokémon's stats and differ from Pokémon to Pokémon, functioning like a Pokémon's "Genes". Every stat (HP, Attack, Defense, Sp. Atk, Sp. Def, and Speed) has an IV ranging from 0 to 31 being the max.
These values are determined the moment they are bred or caught and can only be adjusted with the use of the Bottle Cap Items.
However in this pixelmon server, there is a special npc that will raise the IVs of your first slot party pokemon to maximum (31 IV)
**You can check a pokemon's IV when entering that command /ivs <1-6 (# of your pokemon slot)>
What is the purpose of EVs/IVs and how does it affect your pokemon?
EVs and IVs are extremely important when it comes to challenging trainers and bosses in Pixelmon as it can help you give a upper boost compared to a non-trained Pokemon as these values affect your Pokemon's Stats. Here below is a given example of a non-trained up Haxorus comparing to a Fully Trained up Haxorus
0 EVs and 0 IVs Haxorus:
Fully Trained Haxorus:
As you can see in the highlighted stats, the fully trained Haxorus has a significant increased on its Attack stat and Speed Stat, making it always go first and hit hard if against the non trained up Haxorus.
How do you EV train here in this Pixelmon Server?
Located at this coordinates: x:-1196, y:63, z:539 is EV Island which is built and made for the full purpose of training your pokemon.
Before, we had trainers that specialized in certain stats to EV training however that was causing lags and sometimes even crashes to your client
So we came up with a simplified version of EV training here.
The vendor on the left, gives out free vitamins that give 10 EVs to your pokemon, each different vitamin give a different kind of EV.
Here is a list of what EVs they each give out:
There is also certain feathers that give only 1 EV on a certain stat when used on a Pokemon, here is the list for those:
With this, the main goal is to give 25 of the respective Vitamin on the stat you want to EV train and use the Feathers to adjust the last numbers. For example i would like to train up in Attack EVs so i would use the following:
25x Protein and 2x Muscle Feathers. This would result in 252 EVs in total max.
**To keep track of your Pokemon's EV spread, you can type the command /evs <1-6 (# of your pokemon slot)>
Reducing/Resetting your EVs:
In this wall contains Berries that reduce to your EVs by 10 and a special soup that resets your entire EVs in any case you made any mistakes when training up a Pokemon's EVs.
Tips and Advice:
*It is recommend that you research on your Pokemon's base stats before training, while you can add EVs to any stat, not all pokemon have incredible certain base stats so don't end up training Attack EVs on a Higher Base Sp.Atk Stat Pokemon.
*i recommend using https://play.pokemonshowdown.com/teambuilder to see a preview on your Pokemon's stats when fully trained to prepare ahead.
Just click on the +New Team box and click +Add Pokemon and type out the Pokemon's name you want train and move into the stats box.
Pokemon Natures:
What also plays an important factor in your Pokemon's stats is Natures. Different Natures affect your Pokemon's stats positively and negatively. Having the correct nature when training up a strong Pokemon can benefit you and help you succeed in battles.
Here is a list of which natures impacts your stat:
There's a shopkeeper within EV Island that sells Mints for ₽10000 which allows you to change the nature of your Pokemon, they also drop randomly from Pokestops.
Conclusion:
And with that, We've covered through the basics of EVs/IVs and how to train up your pokemon into its full potential. Remember if you have any questions, you can always ask me and i'll try the best i can to answer. Keep on training.
